Abendmusik Concerts & Events
Abendmusik is our series of concerts, arts events and special worship services that is offered to the public (most of them free of charge). Programs are varied in nature. It is our mission to reach out into the community beyond our Christ the King campus and invite newcomers to our programs, and to make many of the programs child friendly.
A word about the inspiration for our series . . Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707) was one of the most renowned composers of his day. J.S. Bach is said to have walked 200 miles to hear him perform. An accomplished organist and composer, Buxtehude is also remembered for his "Abendmusik" concerts in the German city of Lübeck, where the Danish composer spent most of his adult life. Originally simple organ recitals for the Advent season, "Abendmusik" programs were expanded under Buxtehude's direction to become large-scale dramatic spectacles including solo vocal performances, polyphonic choral works and instrumental music. They were popular events, earning Lübeck, its church, the Marienkirche, and Buxtehude a prominent place in German musical history.
Become a "Friend of Abendmusik" and support this vital ministry. Contact John Marsh for details on making donations, or make your check out to CtK and note in the memo line, “Abendmusik Concerts.” Your support will insure we continue to enjoy the best possible programs at CtK
